Research

Dr. Cydney McGuire is an early career interdisciplinary health services researcher. The overarching aim of Dr. McGuire's research agenda is to investigate the structural and social determinants of disparities in chronic health conditions. Dr. McGuire aims to understand the intended and unintended consequences of policy choices, identify the impact of place-based shocks on diabetes care access and outcomes, and elucidate the mechanisms driving heterogeneous policy impacts on chronic health condition outcomes. She uses mixed methods and quasi-experimental causal inference to elucidate how structural and social conditions interact with person-level behaviors to drive health outcomes.

Her work has been published in high-impact journals, including the American Journal of Public Health, American Journal of Epidemiology, and Health Affairs.

Current works in progress focus on the impact of climate disasters on the healthcare system and access to care for people with diabetes, and the impact of managed care health insurance on diabetic complications. Dr. McGuire also studies the effects of state prenatal drug testing policy on maternal and infant health.
