Cydney M. McGuire, PhD, MPH
My work centers around the belief that the individuals most impacted by a policy must have a voice in the policymaking process and implementation if such policies are to be effective in producing equitable and positive health outcomes.
My
Story
Dr. Cydney McGuire earned her PhD at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health in Health Services Research, Policy, and Administration. Her dissertation on health and political participation was funded by the Minnesota Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship, and she was an NIDDK T32 pre-doctoral fellow focusing on weight-related health. She completed her MPH at Drexel University and received her BS at Howard University.
Dr. McGuire was appointed Assistant Professor at the Indiana University O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 2022. Her research focuses on the structural and social determinants of disparities in chronic health conditions. She uses mixed methods and quasi-experimental causal inference to elucidate how structural and social conditions interact with person-level behaviors to drive health outcomes.
